In Their Own Words: Jennifer Fallon on the WOLFBLADE TRILOGY Series: Hythrun Chronicles: Wolfblade TrilogyĪU Cover Illustrations: Stephanie Pui-Mun Law (Additional Info) Author: Jennifer Fallon My Book Reviews of: Wolfblade - Warrior - Warlord If you want more details, I suggest checking out the individual book reviews. If you want a story you can truly get lost in, with humor, complicated politics, amazing characters who you actually care about and powerful magic, I highly recommend the entire Hythrun Chronicles series. Without a doubt one of my favorite series by one of my favorite authors. Now this series did not really have any of those "oh wow!" moments but it still had enough twists and turns to make me more then happy and keep me glued to the pages to see what happened next! I love the unexpected twist, the surprising "revelation,” the "oh Wow!" moments that you have no way to see coming, and yet, once revealed, everything that has gone before just clicks into place. The last of my absolute favorite story telling elements has to be that of surprise. (Something I think we are all occasionally guilty of.) The best part? They all believe that what they are doing is right! Or atleast they are able to convince themselves of that fact. Furthermore, the "bad" characters still have good qualities while the "good" characters are capable of doing very bad things. Each has their own voice, distinct personality and a combination of strengths and flaws. She makes them feel both real and natural. ![]() There are few authors, in my opinion, that do characters as well as Jennifer Fallon. As a result, the gods end up being some of my favorite characters!Īnother of my favorite things is character driven stories. This series not only caters to my love of interactive gods but it goes one-step further, it portrays the gods as both humorous and somewhat less then all-powerful. There are three fantasy elements that I have a soft spot for, dragons, animal companions, and gods who interact with their followers (and non-believers.) The latter stems from my love at a young age for all types of mythology. There are multiple reasons as to why I love all of the Hythrun Chronicles. I feel comfortable saying this is a great read for older teens and of course fantasy loving adults! There are heavy doses of insanity, depravity, betrayal, murder, and slavery but all of the adult themes are handled tactfully without too much detail. The characters are equally complex, hard, even cruel at times and yet capable of boundless compassion and love. Jennifer Fallon has a wickedly clever mind and it comes shining through in her writing. It is also a story of love, loyalty, and brutal politics. This is a coming of age story, first for Marla, then for Damin. (Something she admits was far from easy!) In my opinion, you should read them as they were published, Demon Child, then Wolfblade, then, for the fun of it, read Demon Child again! That way you will truly get the whole picture and see what a wonderful job Jennifer Fallon did in lining everything up. There are certain events in the Wolfblade Trilogy which I believe will make no sense unless you read Demon Child first. Of course, that is your choice but I think they should be read in a circle. Now you might think that you should read this trilogy first, seeing as how it is a prequel. (If you have not read it yet, what are you waiting for?) This series covers the life of these two characters and takes place roughly 30 years before the events that take place in the Demon Child Trilogy. If you have read the Demon Child Trilogy then you met both Damin and his mother Marla Wolfblade. Wolfblade: Book 1 - Warrior: Book 2 - Warlord: Book 3 (Amazon Affiliate Links)
