The whole reason the Council emprisonned War was because they couldn't expose the people who started the apocalypse without breaking their rules so they had to do it in a roundabout way. >Fury never betrayed the council, she was being betrayed by them the entire time >The Horsemen previously fought and imprisoned the sins in the talisman for the council I guess they could have been sent there to wreck havoc on demons and angels alike. That's a weird diversion too, why send Fury to Earth? If anything this will place her closer to the truth. That's kind of what I got, but again the seven deadly sins have so little explanations about who they are or what they did that it's kind of hard to get. >The council released the seven deadly sins on purpose to cause chaos and occupy Fury whilst they were putting their plan into action. I really hope DS4 clears everything up and doesn't sit somewhere weird in the timeline because I have to agree, it's getting a bit convoluted now. This is why the Prince of Darkness (aka Lucifer) punished Lilith for not dealing with him in the end credits. As a previous demon and council member, his intentions in DS3 are considered traitorous and could very well ruin the plans to erase humanity. It's also why he's spent all of his time freeing souls from immortality and absorbing them into his 'hollow' self, for Fury to then protect with the hopes of eventually resurrecting them as humanity anew. Unlike the Charred Council, the Lord of Hollows believes that humanity is the key to balance which is why he assisted Fury in defeating the sins and fighting back against them. The Crowfather assisted Death in reaching the Well of Souls to either resurrect the Nephilim or Humanity, though I'm not sure which choice is considered canon. Death was always missing to the council and was acting on his own merits to try and clear War's name (who the council framed for unleashing the apocalypse and wiping out humanity). She simply chose to rise up after realizing she's not just a pawn and has her own things to fight for. Fury never betrayed the council, she was being betrayed by them the entire time. The Horsemen previously fought and imprisoned the sins in the talisman for the council, I guess releasing that power was just Fury saying "♥♥♥♥ you"? The council released the seven deadly sins on purpose to cause chaos and occupy Fury whilst they were putting their plan into action. I may be completely wrong but this is what I understood from the game and my brief memory of the others:
